Welcome To St John’s

St John’s Lichfield, set in the cathedral city of Lichfield, is one of many historic almshouses to be found in cities, towns and villages around Britain. Nationally, Almhouses provide sheltered accommodation for more than 35,000 people. St John’s seeks to draw on its rich inheritance from the past and continue to move forward into the future providing modern flats designed for independent living for older people with neighbourly support and care.

St John’s has two locations, St John’s Without the Barrs on the junction of St John Street and Birmingham Road, and St John’s Within the Close situated in the Cathedral Close. St John’s draws people from all parts of the large diocese of Lichfield, covering Staffordshire and North Shropshire. People are often confused by the meaning of the title “Hospital” – it embraces “hospitality”, “hostel”, “hospice”, “accommodation” and “care”.
