In addition to the provision of almshouse accommodation and a commitment to the welfare of the residents of St John’s, the charity has a third objective, which is to provide relief to those who qualify as beneficiaries of the charity (either generally or individually) by making grants of money or providing or paying for items, services or facilities calculated to relieve the needs of such persons.

Under the terms of our Constitution our beneficiaries are defined as “poor persons of good character who are in need and, save in exceptional circumstances, are resident within the area of benefit”, the area of benefit being the Diocese of Lichfield.

Trustees will consider applications for grants from both individuals and organisations who meet these criteria.

If you are interested in learning more about the grant application process please contact the Bursar, Mrs. Jodhi Bostock, at or the Office Manager, Miss Wendy Smith, at or telephone on 01543 251884.
