Overview

St John’s is a Christian community for people who are capable of living independently. It is set in two locations in the historic city of Lichfield, on each of which we provide modern unfurnished accommodation in well equipped apartments.

Our original site at St John’s without the Barrs is a peaceful setting within the town and includes the St. John’s Chapel. On this site, which is Grade 1 listed with a history dating back to 1135, we have 30 apartments.  We also have 12 apartments on our site in the Cathedral Close, St John’s within the Close, which looks out over the cathedral to the north and the garden and Minster Pool to the south.

Our residents are supported by the Master of St John’s who is a priest of the Church of England and lives in the Master’s House which is attached to the Chapel. The Master is the Chaplain of the community, responsible for the Chapel services and, with our other staff, for overseeing the day-to-day wellbeing of the residents.

As well as informal socialising between residents and friends there are also community activities: for example a weekly coffee morning, the Patronal Festival held on St John’s Day (24th June) and a Christmas party.

The town centre is a short level walk from both sites and shops, cafes, restaurants, a theatre, health centres and a modern hospital are also conveniently located in the town.

Lichfield is situated on the West Coast main railway line with fast trains to and from London, via Lichfield Trent Valley Station, and also on the local line to and from Birmingham and beyond, via Lichfield City Station. The National Memorial Arboretum (accessible by road) is less than 7 miles away.
